¿Y tú cómo traducirías esta palabra?

CarpentryCon@HOME traduciendo

Los protagonistas fueron: David Pérez-Suárez, Florencia D’Andrea, Paula Andrea Martinez, Verónica Jiménez Jacinto, Natalia Morandeira, Irma Martínez-Flores, Nicolás Guarín-Zapata, Silvia Rodríguez-Pires, Priscilla Minotti, Juanjo Garcia Mesa, Maggie Suero, Yanina Bellini Saibene, Paula Videla, Virginia A. García Alonso, Monica Alonso, Raquel, Rayna Harris.

Pasos a seguir

And how would you translate this word?

CarpentryCon @ HOME translating

During the sprint at CarpentryCon on July 20/21 we began to translate the Data Carpentry R lesson for geospatial data. Our progress has been incredible, in a few hours it was possible to translate 80% of the lesson using the Transifex platform. (add the photo here).

Together with David, Paula and Florencia we shared the entire session, allowing people from all over the world to join in the time slot that was most convenient for them.

The possibility of sharing the translation with volunteers from different regions of the world allowed us richer exchanges when deciding which words to use.

Around 15 Spanish speakers have joined the translation effort from countries such as Argentina, the United States, Mexico, Uruguay, Bolivia, Australia, Colombia and Spain.

The protagonists were: David Pérez-Suárez, Florencia D’Andrea, Paula Andrea Martinez, Verónica Jiménez Jacinto, Natalia Morandeira, Irma Martínez-Flores, Nicolás Guarín-Zapata, Silvia Rodríguez-Pires, Priscilla Minotti, Juanjo Garcia Mesa, Maggie Suero, Yanina Bellini Saibene, Paula Videla, Virginia A. García Alonso, Monica Alonso, Raquel, Rayna Harris.

The steps to follow are:

  • Add everyone who wants to join the translation team.

Spanish translations timeline

Since 2017, more than 60 people have collaborated in the Spanish translations of the different lessons from both Software Carpentry and Data Carpentry, being the language with the largest number of translated lessons from the Carpentries. 🎉

So far these lessons have been translated:

In addition, the motivation of people in Latin America and expats to open the doors so that more Spanish-speaking people access the valuable teaching material of the carpentries is reflected in the various workshops that have been organised in the region since 2014.

At the CarpentryCon there will also be a session on the machinery that combines the lessons into fragments that can then be used in Transifex. This session will be in English and is aimed at those who want to help make the process easier for everyone and start new communities of translation into other languages.

On August 3 there was an informal meeting to get to know the community.
