Launching HPC Carpentry
Today The Carpentries welcomes our fourth official lesson program, High Performance Computing (HPC) Carpentry!

The HPC Carpentry project has been driven by a passionate group of Carpentries community members for many years. We have been delighted to observe that community growing quickly during the recent incubation period, and we are excited for the future of the project. The HPC Carpentry Steering Committee and many other dedicated community members have been coordinating with members of the Core Team to prepare curriculum, infrastructure, and communications platforms for today’s launch.
What is coming next? From today, HPC Carpentry workshops are supported as official Carpentries events:
- Instructors can register Self-Organised HPC Carpentry workshops for listing in AMY and on our websites.
- Partner organisations and other hosting institutions can request Centrally-Organised HPC Carpentry workshops from The Carpentries.
- The Carpentries can provide cloud-hosted infrastructure for Instructors and learners to work with during these workshops.
- The Curriculum Team is supporting Maintainers of HPC Carpentry’s core curriculum.
- The HPC Carpentry Steering Committee becomes a Governance Committee, alongside the equivalent committees for our other lesson programs.
Given the importance of working in shared, distributed compute environments to cutting edge research and the commonalities of membership and culture between the two communities, HPC Carpentry and The Carpentries are a perfect match. It has been a pleasure to work together throughout the development, incubation, and adoption of the lesson program. Today’s launch means that we can scale up the impact of the project and bring the essential research computing skills that it teaches to an even larger number of learners around the world.
Why not help us make that happen by hosting an HPC Carpentry workshop for your community?
