Day One Message from The Carpentries Interim Executive Director

Today I officially step into the role of Interim Executive Director of The Carpentries for a six-month term.

I have been quite comfortable serving The Carpentries as a Team Lead and Director of Workshops and Instruction, doing work that I love alongside people I care deeply about. But because this organisation means so much to me, I step into the role of Interim Executive Director with great joy and gratitude.

This has already been a year of transition. We launched our new Partnership Program, welcomed new Partners, launched our Gen AI in Workshops bonus module, and continued finding new ways to serve our community. And with four months still left in the year, who knows what else 2026 has in store for us!

Over the next six months, I look forward to continuing the work we started and fulfilling our commitments to our existing and new Partners. My goal during this interim period is to provide continuity and stability while working closely with our Board of Directors to establish the trajectory for the next iteration of The Carpentries. This is an opportunity to honour what we have built while thoughtfully considering where we go next.

I am especially grateful for our incredible Core Team. I could not step into this role without the unwavering commitment they bring to this organisation every single day. And to our community, thank you for your continued support and for jumping in to support our Core Team during this transition.

I know this has been challenging. We have been through tough times many times before, but we have also witnessed what happens when this community comes together. We overcome.

So, on my first official day as Interim Executive Director, I want to make one thing clear: I am here to serve you.

For 28 years, this community has served The Carpentries and helped us fulfil our mission. It is an honour to now serve you in this new way.
