Please Update Your AMY Profile!

We have recently released some updates on AMY, our community data management software. We are calling on our Instructors, Instructor Trainers, Maintainers, and all other Carpentries community members with a profile on AMY to please take a few minutes to update your airport location and any other outdated information on your AMY profile.

Active Carpentries community members can log in to AMY via GitHub. The AMY Community User Guide provides step-by-step instructions for logging in to AMY and updating your profile.

If you have difficulty logging in, you can contact The Carpentries Core Team at team@carpentries.org.

Highlight Updates

Airport is now a required field

Location is now a required field in AMY. When you choose your preferred airport (which can either be the airport nearest to you or the airport you frequently fly from), your country and time zone will automatically update. If you would like, you may change the country and time zone from the automatically updated values.

Having accurate location data helps us determine whether we can call on you for help when we need Instructors and other assistance in specific geographic locations.

Moreover, accurate geographical data helps us track the regional and global spread and impact of our lesson programs and workshops.

Update your human language preference

We encourage you to review and update your human language preferences in your AMY profile. Ensuring your preferred human languages are up to date helps us connect language communities, expand our global reach, and strive to provide inclusive and accessible instruction across different regions.

Update your lesson and knowledge domains

Review and update the lessons you are qualified to teach and the areas of expertise you have on your AMY profile. Keeping this information current helps us better understand the disciplinary strengths within our community.

Following last year’s introduction of Cite This Lesson pages into the Workbench, the Curriculum Team will soon begin making regular releases of our core lessons. We want to make sure that everyone who has contributed to the lessons has the chance to be acknowledged. To help us represent you in these lesson publications (or to opt out of being included), please ensure that your information is accurate in the following fields of your AMY profile:

  • GitHub handle
  • ORCID
  • Consent to include your name when publishing lessons
  • Email address (instructions below).

Update email address and list of workshops taught

If you need to update your email address, please reach out to us at team@carpentries.org, and we will gladly assist you. You are not able to make this change on your own. Our team must manually update your email.

Your AMY profile contains a list of all the events you have participated in. If the list is inaccurate, please also let us know by contacting team@carpentries.org. If you have the workshop website available, the workshop slug or the workshop dates, please provide that information when you email us.

Option to remove X/Twitter profile and add your Bluesky and Mastodon profiles

If you are on Bluesky and/or Mastodon and would like your profile handle(s) to be visible on your Carpentries profile, you now have the option to add this information in AMY.

Related to this, other community members have opted to remove their X/Twitter handles from their AMY profiles. If you also wish to do so, please delete your X/Twitter handle from your AMY profile.

Follow and engage with us on Bluesky and Mastodon!

We would also like to remind the community that The Carpentries co-produced a Mastodon Quick Start Guide with rOpenSci for our community members interested in adopting Mastodon as a social media platform.

Thank You!

Keeping your AMY profile up to date may feel like a small task, but it plays an important role in helping us understand who we are, where we are, and how we can best serve our community. Accurate data allows us to connect the right people to the right opportunities, strengthen regional support, recognise your contributions, and measure the real impact of our programs around the world.

Our goal is to steward our community data with care so that we can continue making meaningful, measurable impact together. Thank you for all that you do and for taking a few minutes to ensure your information reflects the incredible work you are already leading.
