- 14 sites worldwide have registered for the first ever Software Carpentry and Data Carpentry instructor and helper retreat on 14 November. If you care about training, join a site near you or dial in via Google Hangouts.

- AMY 1.0 was released. Django web programmers are welcome to join the development team.

- Summarised feedback from instructor debriefing sessions on Python lessons is now available and will be used when we redesign the lessons. Please take a moment to look through the suggestions if you'd like to incorporate some in upcoming workshops.
- We're busy improving the post-workshop survey. Read more about suggestions received from a consultant at University of Texas.
- Belinda Weaver provided feedback on their workhshop in Brisbane. Using the Australian Research Cloud for running the workshop really seemed to work well.
- Greg Wilson argues that not having the skills which Software Carpentry ultimately aims to teach, is putting a tax on scientific discovery. Read more in his post about scarcity.
- In October we ran the 5th Software Carpentry workshop in South Africa in 11 months. Adrianna Piñska was organiser and lead-instructor. The workshop was small, but well received.
- Round 18 of instructor debriefing revisits installation issues and suggests the use of cheat sheets to give participants quick access to references. See what else is discussed in the blog post.
- The Software Sustainability Institute recently ran a Jupyter Notebook workshop using some of the Software Carpentry materials.
- European ELIXIR nodes are boosting their instructor numbers. Learn more about past and upcoming instructor training opportunities for researchers associated with ELIXIR.
- Tatiana Tomich and Shelley Littin wrote about a series of Software Carpentry and Data Carpentry workshops offered by the University of Arizona's BIO5 Institute and iPlant Collaborative.
